3 Uncommonly Disorders

"If you think anyone is sane, you just don't know enough about them" -Christopher Moore

This one line speaks more than you'd imagine. The world may even become a saner place one day, but the inside of a mind of the average person will rarely ever be. I'm talking about the typical disorders of the mind you're bound to come across at least once in life, recognize it or not. Listed are 3 of these.

1)Obsessive Compulsive Disorder-
This is undoubtedly the most famous of all. It's chronic, and the person has obsessions and/or compulsions, and urges to do things again and again, or a certain way. It has a close relationship with anxiety, and there is a gamut of symptoms:
  • Arranging stuff symmetrically
  • Off-limit thoughts about death of self and others
  • An irrational fear of germs
  • Compulsively doing something in a pattern over and over, compulsive counting
  • Repetitive washing of hands or cleaning
  • Repeatedly checking for things, like for the fan to be off.
  • Tic disorders
OCD may affect people of any age group

2)Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder-
PTSD is a condition a person develops post a traumatic event, and it affects more than 10million people in India per year. Associated symptoms include:
  • Flashbacks of the event
  • Nightmares
  • Disturbing thoughts and feelings
  • Alterations in thought-patterns
  • Emotional numbness
  • Apathy
If these symptoms persist for more than a month, it can be classified as PTSD, else it maybe an acute stress disorder. PTSD may increase the risk of suicide for an individual.

3)Social Anxiety Disorder-
This is something more than its acronym SAD suggests. A condition characterized by extreme anxiety raging in on encountering a social situation, big or small, it can fasten one's heartbeat and make it difficult for the person to understand what's happening around them. It's also called Social Phobia, and symptoms include:
  • Palpitations
  • Trembling
  • Blushing
  • Sweating
  • High self-consciousness and performance standards
The person will backtrack all possible situations, formulate how to deal with them when they happen, and feel embarrassed after a meagerly unsatisfactory performance at even merely existing.
