How to relieve Bloating

Bloating is a sign when body is not able to digest food properly. There can be numerous reasons for bloating including drinking less water, eating fast food or overeating. There are several foods and dairy products that result in bloating. It may lead to discomfort during work and sleep, flatulence, heartburn and irritable bowel syndrome. But the good news is there are several remedies that can reduce bloating effectively. Few are listed below.

WATER

Less intake of water may lead to extreme bloating. Water flushes out toxins from stomach and avoids excess acid build up. It is also known to increase metabolism and hence reduce bloating. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day may reduce tummy swelling to a certain extent.

ASAFOETIDA

Asafoetida or Heeng is a spice with strong smell is widely used in many households to treat stomach ailments like indigestion, stomach pain, bloating and continuous burping. Though many people don’t like the strong smell of asafoetida, it may come in handy to reduce discomfort.

GINGER

Ginger is known to relax and improve quality of muscles around the intestine and allows smooth bowel movements and avoids swelling of belly due to gas or fluid accumulation. Adding ginger in your lemonade may prove beneficial to your body.

PEPPERMINT

Peppermint contains menthol which is a strong anti-spasmodic and soothes the smooth muscles of the intestines. It effectively reduces pain associated with gas and bloating. Adding peppermint in your morning tea may help to reduce everyday indigestion.

FENNEL SEEDS

Fennel seeds are loaded with benefits related to digestive and urinary system. It also contains anti microbial properties. Apart from treating bloating fennel seed may prove useful in treating lower back pain and help retrieve digestion after chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Having some fennel seeds in tea or adding spoonful of fennel seed power in a glass of water may help.
