Aasans To Help Beat The Blues

Periods are one of the craziest days of the month for a girl. You feel weird all the time because of the cramps, bloating, nausea, constipation etc. So, to help make periods better for you, there are a few aasans that should be a part of your morning exercise:

  • CHANDRANAMASKAR: It is related to the 14 lunar phases and is thus known as moon salutation. Ensure that your stomach is empty before doing it. It is very helpful in cramps and during heavy bleeding. Follow the steps as shown in the picture above.
  • SUPTA BADDHA KONASANA: Also called as Goddess Pose, it helps open the groin and hips thus helping in relieving cramps. Follow the following steps to perform it safely.
  1. Come to lie on your back.
  2. Twist your knees, keeping the soles of your feet on the floor.
  3. Open your knees out to either side, bringing the soles of your feet together.
  • DHANURASANA: This asana is named because of the way the body looks when you do it. It is very helpful in relieving menstrual discomfort and constipation by increasing blood circulation in the body and strengthening the back muscles.
  • BADDHA KONASANA: During menstruation sitting poses are what most girls prefer therefore this asana is perfect. It focuses on the pelvic region and stimulates the abdomen area including the ovaries. The steps are as follows:
  1. Take deep breaths.  As you breathe out, twist forward to hold your feet with your hands and bring them towards yourself. Your soles should be touching one another.
  2. Continue pulling your feet in till you feel a mild stretch in the internal thighs. Keep arms extended.
  3. Try not to bend your back. Inhale regularly. Hold position for 5-7 breaths then get back in the original position.
