All you need to know about "Asthma"

Asthma is an inflammatory disease of the lungs. It makes breathing difficult and brings on attacks of coughing, wheezing, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath. It implies that even the coughing that seems normal to us might be the dreary disease known as “Asthma”. Nonetheless, it is a curable disease as long as you are well aware with the symptoms and you don’t let it reach the deadly stage.

Symptoms:

Asthma can escalate rapidly. Before Asthma leads to narrowing of your airways, you need to be aware of the following symptoms of asthma. However not all people who have asthma have these symptoms. Similarly not all people who have these symptoms necessarily have Asthma. So these are just to provide you the glimpse to understand it better.

  • Coughing: Coughing from asthma often (Mostly at night or early in the morning, making it hard to sleep).
  • Wheezing: Wheezing is a whistling or squeaky sound that occurs when you breathe.
  • Chest tightness. This may feel like something is squeezing or sitting on your chest.
  • Shortness of breath. Some people who have asthma say they can't catch their breath or they feel out of breath. You may feel like you can't get air out of your lungs.
  • Allergies: Sneezing, runny nose, cough, nasal congestion, sore throat, and headache.

Prevention:

As it is always said, "Prevention is better than cure". However Asthma can’t always be prevented. But you can take steps to control the disease as well as symptoms. Some of which are:

  • Use medicines as your doctor prescribes.
  • Identify and try to avoid things that make your asthma worse (asthma triggers). However, one trigger you should not avoid is physical activity. Physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Talk with your doctor about medicines that can help you stay active.
  • Keep track of your asthma symptoms and level of control.
  • Get regular check-ups for your asthma.

Treatments:

A ) Natural Treatments:

  • Ginger: Boiling ginger along with honey and the intake of the reduced and boiled content.
  • Coffee: Hot Coffee helps to cure asthma
  • Mustard Oil (Sarso): Heat a cup of water until it reaches a rapid boil and mix few spoons of mustard oil & caraway seeds to it. Then inhale the steam from the boiling water. This will help you a lot in asthmatic issues.
  • Garlic: Garlic helps in easy breathing in asthma patients. Thus acting as a good cure.
  • Eucalypti’s Oil: Eucalyptus is a tree, the dried leaves of which are used to make medicines. It helps in protection from chemicals that cause asthma.

B ) Other Treatments:

  • Asthma has no cure but control. To control this long-term disease, following steps must be taken:
  • Working with your doctor to treat other conditions that can interfere with asthma management.
  • Avoiding things that worsen your asthma (asthma triggers). However, one trigger you should not avoid is physical activity. Physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Talk with your doctor about medicines that can help you stay active.
  • Working with your doctor and other health care providers to create and follow an asthma action plan.
