Many plants have been used as folk remedies for hundreds of years. For example, ginger is used to treat motion sickness, black raisins to reduce acidity and cabbage juice for ulcers. A recent research on plants shows that they contain active ingredients that possess several healing properties. Many herbs are known to have medicinal properties. But if your choice of food is wrong, it can lead to various diseases. Here is a list of a few herbs for your day to day problems.

1.     HAIR LOSS

                ROSEMARY OIL: Massaging the scalp with rosemary oil is known to stimulate circulation and encourage hair growth.

BLACK SESAME SEEDS: They are rich in iron and calcium. Black sesame seeds can prevent hair loss. You can sprinkle roasted black seeds on your salad regularly to keep your hair healthy.

SAW PALMETTO: It is difficult to predict the reason for hair loss but they are mostly influenced by hormones and genetics. Most men suffer from hair loss owing to the conversion of testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which kills hair follicles and lead to prostate enlargement. Saw palmetto blocks the formation of DHT.

2.     BODY ODOUR

                BAKING SODA: Take a pinch of baking soda and rub it on your armpits. It is known to have a deodorizing effect.

CORIANDER SEEDS: Roast and grind some coriander seeds to make a fine powder. Then take 3-4 tablespoons of the powder and boil it in a cup of water. Strain in the resultant tea. Dip a cloth in it, and clean your armpits for a few minutes. Coriander seeds contain at least 20 chemicals which possess antibacterial properties and help in reducing body odour.

VINEGAR: Cleaning the armpits with a cloth dipped in vinegar is an easy way to reduce body odour, as vinegar has antiseptic properties.

3.     DANDRUFF

                SOYABEAN: Certain nutrients in soyabean, like biotin, lecithin, selenium and zinc can help prevent dandruff.

GARLIC: Eating one teaspoon of chopped raw garlic twice a day works wonders in removing dandruff, since it is a rich source of biotin and selenium, both of which have anti-dandruff properties.

TEA TREE OIL: This oil has antiseptic properties, and contains chemicals that penetrate the scalp and correct the problem from the root.

4.     PIMPLES

TOOTHPASTE: The toothpaste that we use each morning can help a lot in treating pimples. Apply some white toothpaste on the pimple at night before going to bed and wash it in the morning. Do not use gel toothpaste.

ICE: Ice is an effective way to reduce swelling and redness of pimples. It improves blood circulation and tightens skin pores while removing all the dirt and oil from the affected area. Wrap a piece of ice cube in a cloth and hold it on to the affected area for a few minutes. Repeat the process.

PAPAYA: Papaya is used in many beauty products. It removes the dead cells from the skin surface making it soft and supple. Papaya contains an enzyme called papain which prevents formation of pus.
